We should ask him if he wants to join CCF and sell a few pretties!

I thought this part was great:
A team of heritage experts who have been involved in the site's excavation have nothing but praise for the finder of the hoard. Anna Booth said: "The discovery at Frome stands out as a story, mainly because Dave Crisp reported it immediately to his local coroner."This meant we got to excavate the site in its original, undisturbed state. Mr. Crisp took part in this process with us, even going to the extent of camping there one night with his grandson, to make sure that the site was safe over night."

The Frome Hoard is old news; the article dates from 2010 shortly after the hoard was found. It now has its own Wikipedia page which contains a detailed breakdown by emperor of the hoard contents as analysed so far.

As for the question in the thread title: it cannot be denied that there are similarities between ancient coins and fossil fuels. There's only a finite amount of them in the ground to start with, our technology and techniques for finding them and digging them up are constantly improving and more and more people are out there looking. It only stands to reason that sooner or later, we're going to run out.

All you'll find where I live are rocks and the occasional bottle cap. And dirt. Go a little west and you'll find alligators and mud...

That was a nice find and one of the largest reported finds in the UK.
There are loads of coins buried waiting to be discovered, it won't be long before another hoard turns up - to put more coins onto the market, or add to a museums already huge collection.
I have not had time to get out with mine recently, but come February I will be out and about.
