Another NGC error.

Many of you know I collect TPG errors. Well I got a new one just today on an offer on ebay.

The photo is not too clear but the error is clear. You can confirm the error by looking at the NGC verification page by entering the # 1999205-014. Same coin same label - no tampering here.

NGC has encapsulated an 1881 Durango 8R with assayer initials JP and placed it in a slab labeled 1887 Culiacan AM. So all they really got right was that the coin in the holder was a Mexican 8R. I would love to find the other half of this rather foolish error.

This of course is one of those "highly suspect" proprietary labels referring to the "Tarrant County, Texas silver hoard". I have never heard of that hoard but from other discussion boards there was a period when certain dealers were able to get these labels made for any "accumulation" they "found". The proprietary nature of the label allowed a premium to be charged.

Does anyone know anything about this group of coins or their origins? Who was behind it and when did it happen?

Someday, I wonder if someone might discover the "Swamperbob hoard" in my bank?
