This same coin hammered at $57,500 at Heritage in 2007, and that was $10k more than the two PCGS 66FB's offered since at the same venue. The asking price is similar to a beautiful toned PCGS 66+ sold last year. These are an emotional purchase only available to the top end of collectors, who do not always bid pragmatically. But, asking price aside, Mr. Contursi is no fool when it comes to generating free publicity.

If I had a spare 86K$ laying around it sure wouldn't go into this coin!

if I had 86K to spare on coins, I'd rather put it into other coins.

I'm with you guys on this one. First thing on the list would be a set of silver dollars in MS64 at lowest.
Oh a person can dream.

38 declined offers in nearly a year. What do you suppose the high has been?

Why all the fuss? Doesn't everyone have those? I thought those were common. I'd buy this one but already have to many.

carl, I told you before, send those pesky things here. I will take on the task of keeping them.

Even given how awesome it is, I can not see paying quite that much. Now, if it were 75,000.00 I might be in on it.
