Hello I found this coin in a old cigar box. I'm thinking it might be a old roman coin. I have looking online for a month now I haven't seen the exact same coin on any web sites. It might be a fake or something because the only other coins in the box were contemporary counterfeits capped busy halves. Any help id appreciate it thank you!

It's a potin tetradrachm of Severina minted in Alexandria, Egypt in the year 275.

Looks legit to me but seeing it in hand is always best.

Here's what I think is the correct attribution:

EGYPT, Alexandria
Severina, 275 AD
Potin tetradrachm
Obv: OVΛΠ CEVH PINA CEB; draped bust right, hair brushed straight with long plait running along the back of head and tucked under stephane
Rev: ETOVC; Dikaiosyne standing facing, head left, scales in right hand, cornucopiae in left; Z in right field

"Z" is the date-- renal year 7. This coin is more scarce than other years for Severina and it is also notable because her husband, Emperor Aurelian, had likely died before this coin was minted and some historians feel that she was essentially ruling the empire after his death and before the next emperor's reign began.

Oh, you asked if this was Roman. Yes, it is a Roman Provincial coin (sometimes called Greek Imperial).

Very nice, looks authentic. Its from Alexandria and its a bronze tetradrachm of an empress. It appears to read 'VEDINA CEB', indicating this coin to be SEVERINA (The D is actually a Rho (P as it appears int eh greek alphabet, but its an R in the latin) , and the CEB is greek for Augusta). Its got the date on it (the Z being the regnal year) but I couldnt find the corresponding year AD.

The person on the back is Dikaiosyne, the ancient greek equivalent of Justice.

Its a nice coin and Severina isn't a very common person to find on coins either, nice to find lying around.
