I agree - I actually don't mind the sand people as much on the quarter as I did on the previous pictures I've seen. I like this years set quite a bit otherwise.
The story I have read elsewhere on the sand people - is that building sand castles is a popular thing to do in the dunes. The sand is very good for them because only a foot or so deep is wet sand - and it is said to be perfect for building the castles.
That said - the coin would have been fine to the rest of us who don't know the back story to the people being there - had they left them off.

shootn, I did not know that. Thanks for the info. :)
I just had to re-order my proof Eagle and my silver proof ATBs. As usual, the mint did not send the courtesy email to let me know they were going to bill and I had just paid other bills. Thing is, sometimes I actually do get the email. Never know when it will come in or not.

I wish the mint would sell the 5 oz silver quarters in a set for any price shown above. Wait, I would not get any because they would sell out before I finished typing the order.
Seriously, has anyone actually seen a 5 oz quarter? I believe dealers can get bullion 5 oz quarters, but the mint site sells only proof at a very nice price from the mint's point of view. Too steep for me.

I am big fan of ATB Quarter series. Collect proof and un circulated ATBs. They are better designed than the State Quarter series and mintages are also much lower.

The 5 ounce quarters overall are a nice series. The more detailed designs usually look better in the 5oz like I think Smokey Mountain will, but there are some that look better as a normal quarter. Perry comes to mind for one that looks weird with all that empty space on the bigger puck.

Have not gotten an email saying it was shipped yet, but I went on to the Mint website and checked my account and it said it was shipped today.

The 2012 were cut off suddenly so they command a high resale value.

Very nice looking coins. I really like the designs for this year. I agree that the ATB Quarter designs have been much nicer that the State Quarter designs of 1999-2009.
