Let us know where the next coin show you will be attending is located. If you have a link to the show, please provide it. Also list the last time you visited a show and where it was located. You can post any "steals" you purchased. Thanks for participating. Edited by PBCoins 07/07/2007 7:33 pm

quote: I sometimes feel like a parrot. I've repeated this about coin shows in the Chicago area so many times I feel like they should be giving me a bonus for advertising. All you have to do is go to Google and type in Illinois Coin Shows. There are a minimum of 3 a Month within 15 miles of my house. Of course that would mean you would have to go to my house and then the coin show to make it in less than 15 miles. You buy breakfast. The Lamont show is the bottom of my list of places to go. Most difficult to find and usually the smallest of the standard 3 shows. Countryside is the biggest of the normal 3 shows. At times 80 to 100 dealers. Occationally Sat and Sun. I never can figure out when. Itasca is easy to find, smaller than countryside, best coin deals though. All are free entrance, free parking and naturally you pay for coffee. Food is best at Itasca but cost the most. Coutryside always has many booklets, pamphlets, newsleters on coins at a front table and all free. Occationally some candy. Last show there was Coin Prices, Numismatic News, Coin World and several more and all free. Those go fast. All there when I got there and most gone when I left. Basically most coin dealers are the same at all three shows. If you get to know them, you get better deals naturally. A few will even go looking for coins for you. Example is Rober Griffitys who is looking for a 20D MS grade Lincoln Cent for me. Usually at all three shows there are dealers that sell Jewlery, currency and occationally knives. Of course there are those dumb coin shows at the Rosemont Convention Center. Overpriced coins, pay to park, pay to get in, pay way to much for food. Also, a few at that Hotel accross the street from the Rosemont Convention Center and those also, stink. Like I said the Itasca show is the best for me as far as prices are concerned so I'll be there this Sunday for sure. just carl
Want to thank Carl for the info

I am going to try and go to this show: http://www.coinshows.com/stcharles_mns.htmlThis will be my first show. I agree, Itasca is really a nice town. I lived there for about 5 years and Truffles on Rohlwing Road has the best Chicken & Swiss there is. The Holiday Inn also has good food, my best friend held their wedding reception there, but that's been about 13 years ago. When I lived there, I was not into coin collecting, so I never went to the shows. LeAnn

Biokemist6: If I make it, it will be really neat to actually meet someone from CCF. I'll e-mail you when it gets closer and let you know if I'm going to make it. LeAnn

O.K, I keep reading about you folks from the North Side and and North Suburbs of Chicago. How about anybody from the South Side? I lived in the South Suburbs for 40 years before moving to N.W. Indiana 12 years ago. I have not gone to a show in about 5 or 6 years. The last one I went to was at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Mike

The show was pretty cool. It ran from Wednesday through Sunday and included a number of educational symposiums, such as talks on weak strikes and it's affect on grading, research on 1858 large cent, etc, as well as the numismatic auction. I, however, only spent about 3 hours on Saturday walking the bourse floor. There were quite a few nice World Coins dealers, but those that had quality pieces - charged higher prices than I was willing to pay. I did end-up with a couple of Mexican pieces and a colorful Columbian Half commem. that I already posted on U.S. forums. Here's an 8 Reales piece I picked-up for my date set: And here's a nice 50 centavos "balance scale" that called my name, as well: There were a few other pieces that I considered buying, but this was the first show I decided to set a spending limit, so I decided against it. One was a "Wild Man" Brunswick Thaler and the other one was a Lima 8 Reales counter-stamped with George III of Great Brittain. Cheers, ~Roman
