I have started filling my coins, but I am having a slight panic attack that these flips may damage my coins? it doesn't say specifically that they don't contain PVC. I have my gold coins in them and was about to start putting in my silvers, but unsure if this will damage coins... also, does PVC damage all metals in coins? or just specific? Thanks http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140968489413?ru=http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html%3F_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=140968489413&_rdc=1

PVC leaches out acid, and acid will attack pretty much everything except gold and platinum.

The clear windows on Lighthouse flips are made out of Mylar, not PVC; they won't damage your coins.
Two problems can arise however, if you put those flips in PVC album pages:
1. The Mylar is not thick enough, or just a bit too porous, so that it allows the gassing out of the plasticiser to leach out and affect your silver and bronze coins in the long term, as Sap has indicated.
2. The Mylar flips can stick to the inside of the PVC album pockets given enough time, and in the worst case, the flip will tear if it is forcibly removed from the album pocket. This condition seems to be more heavily affected by high humidity.
However, there IS an answer to this problem: DON'T use PVC album pages; use either either thick Mylar or clear polypropylene archival quality album pages. I have never had any trouble with this combination.

What about the adhesive that keeps it shut?

I thought this question might be raised. I have used both the staple and self adhesive cardboard / Mylar flips for decades. The adhesive, from my experience, has had no detrimental effect on any of my coins, irrespective of the metal or finish, be they business strikes, proofs or red Unc bronze coins.

Thanks for all your answers and info guys. Leading on from this: This is the folder I was going to use for the more expensive coins (inside flips): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Numis-coi...em20cce3a363So this would probably not be safe even with flips? Also, what would be the best 'cheap' way to file pennys/ half pennies with hardly no value? I have a date run of these for about 100 years, but 90% of the coins are worth nothing, so in turn, I wouldn't find them worthy of spending much money on storage, but equally, there is no point collecting them if I cannot have them organised nicely? I had just put them straight into sleeves like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-x-Coin-...em53e9de527eI'm guessing this will eventually damage coins, although they are not worth much, I don't want them to get ruined Collecting is easy... maintaining and storing is NOT!! :S Thanks

I can tell you that coin holders from lighthouse don't damage coins. I have a few hundred coins in these coin holders and they all still look good after a few years.

Quote: I had just put them straight into sleeves like this: Personally, I would not put any coin directly in a pocket without first putting it in a 2x2 (or appropriate size) holder. These pages appear to be sized for coins, not holders, so I would avoid them. You said they are worth nothing, but they must be worth something to you since you have kept them.
