Russian-Soviet-Federated-Socialist-Republic---50-Kopeks

This piece is the pride and joy of my purchases today. It is from the Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic. The RSFSR minted coins from 1921-1923, before it changed into the USSR. 50 Kopeks, Y#83 for Russia.

Edit: Sap, you're quite correct. Where on earth did People slip into that? I must have been really tired by the time I got around to posting this up. o.0

The name's not quite right, ElleKitty - it's the "Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic", or RSFSR. The Cyrillic letter "P" is pronounced like a Latin "R".

The hammer and sickle, the famous icon of communism, was invented by the red revolutionaries in Russia in 1917. It symbolises the unity of the two groups of working-class people, factory workers and farmers.

The symbol wasn't officially adopted as the soviet emblem until 1922, when that coin was made. Prior to this, the symbol for the Russian Revolution was a hammer and plough.
