At an auction today I saw a 1789 British Spade Guinea.

I weighed it and it weight 8.1g.

I was wondering if it was genuine and of it is what is it worth with the jewellery mount.

Looks genuine but only worth BV as it has been butchered.

I agree. It's been mounted, heavily cleaned and not exactly a superb year. Therefore, BV or close to me.

Is 8.1g the correct weight? Most places I looked at said 8.4g.

Flippy, due to excessive cleaning, circulation and even maybe due to piercing, for the mount, it would not be unusual for the coin to lose .3 grammes. It is not easy to determine whether the coin is genuine or not from the photos, at least for me -I have little experience regarding British gold. However, looks legit to me.
