Hi,

Very happen I found this forum! I recently came across this coin. It's very hard to make out. It looks like there's an eagle on one side. Any ideas what it could be? Sorry for the bsd quality - I can't figure out how to get a better picture with my cheap camera

I have an old camera too so I use a magnifying glass, tons of light and no flash or I get a flare on the magnifying glass lens. I can't see anything but a blob sorry. Check out the threads for taking better pictures, there are tons here and very helpful.

I have moved this thread to the identification section. Until you get different and better pictures of the coin/medal/token, we aren't really able to help, sorry

Wonderful much better, It's not just as blob anymore. But I still have no idea, it does seem like an eagle but tons of countries use eagles. I'm sure someone will be along in no time with a proper ID

Hmm... is there a crude snake in there? My baseless instincts are leading to Mexican Revolutionary coins... but I'm probably wrong.

Thanks nalaberong, I didn't want to be the first to say Mexico, but that is the impression I was getting too.

That's not a snake; it's an anchor. That configuration of eagle and anchor is emblematic of the United States Marine Corps. They minted no coins, but over the last 200+ years, their uniforms and gear have had many thousands of buttons:

See I was flip-flopping between anchor and snake, I'm going to have to get my eyes checked soon, I think the prescription has run out on my glasses.
