Hello,

I've had this coin around for time. I have not found a picture online exactly like this one. I know there were many different versions of these coins but I would like to find out if this is genuine. I have several "copies" of Greek and Roman coins but this one looks much different and much much older. I got it from my Grandfather years ago. He always said it was not a copy. It is silver in color. I think alexander is pictured on the front side but his hair style is different than most I have found. On the obverse Athena is sitting holding Nike, but under the chair is what appears to be the sun? I have not found any with this design under her chair. I hope someone here can help identify this.
Thank you!
Ben

This is almost certainly a replica of a Lysimachus tetradrachm. It features the deified bust of Alexander III of Macedon and the reverse is seated resting on a gorgon shield. What gives the coin away as a replica is the incompleteness of the devices. Fine details on the coin that should be their in protected areas are not present. Even on en extremely worn coin the shield would not be missing the bottom right corner, The weight should be be 16g + with one with this much detail and close to 30 mm in diameter. Good silver.
