Maximinus Thrax:D I just busted this giant (24.95 grams, 33mm, and over 7 feet tall in real life;) out of his plastic NGC coffin and wanted to share:)

"Maximinus AE sestertius. Struck March 235 - January 236 AD [anyone know how this specific date is derived?]
IMP MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG Laureate and draped bust right. / PAX AVGVSTI SC, Pax standing with olive branch. RIC 58."

I believe it can be 'inferred' by the lack of the designation COS. Maximinus was one of the two consuls for the year AD 236. Ergo we presume it to be pre 236.

THAT would be an eye catcher in any collection, especially in the condition that is seen here. At this size (33mm), the best I can do is a rather deceiving fake of Claudius.

As far as the date is concerned, with FURIVS RVFVS, for the end date, and March 235 would have been when he was first recognized by the Senate.

I just two small problems:
1. At 24.95 grams, Maximinus Thrax must have had an extremely low density.
2. This giant coin, at over 7 feet tall, has an extremely low density.

I will post him in the sticky grading thread and then reveal:)

Think he was worth the $200.00 USD I paid?
