Hi, I got this recently from ebay and need some help determining the year of this coin and possible value in this grade. It weights 26.84g.

That's better, hard enough to read when the English is upside down

1901-1912 is the age I'm seeing but it might even be older, good old Krause cuts off at 1900

Edit: and I still can't read the date with it right side up

38.6mm is 1874-1887

38.1mm is 1886-1912

26.9468g according to Krause on the reduced size, with a 90% composition, thus the '900' the 416 is Grains, 480 grains is 1 troy ounce or 31.1g.

I'm wondering about this one too, can anyone read the date? I can see numbers but I'm not sure how to translate them. I'm not really into massive imperialism but I am glad that most coins these days have 'readable' A.D. dates

It's Year 28 of some imperial era (I forget how to keep track of them).

The coin is Year 28 of the Meiji Empire which equals an AD date of 1895.

Side note: The orientation of the coin as originally presented makes it easier to read the Kanji characters representing the date.
