Hello Forum members,

Ive got this farthing from 1836 UK mint. It looks like besides it is double strike of the letters. That the date especially the 3 digit is an 3 and an reverse 2.

Does someone know more about this piece? Or is this just normal for this date?

It definitely looks like something is in the "3". I did some quick research and couldn't find any reference for an overdate
Of course, that doesn't mean it's not one. There's definitely something in the date. It could be the cross-stroke of a 2?

Hello DVcollector,

Thank you for your reaction. I can't find something about this coin with overstrike. And I have no expertise about overstrikes.

Deffinately looks like the cross stroke of a 2 here as well,@vince1977 this would not be an overstrike it would be an over date 1836\26 or 1836 3\2. Good luck

I think it's just wear on a normal coin. The middle "tooth" of the 3 typically touches or nearly touches the knob on the bottom loop. On coins with less wear this connecting area is thinner than here, but considering the heavy wear this is likely the case. The rest of the date appears flattened by wear as well.

These are soft copper coins, so I could see how wear or knocks might push around the metal.
