i just do not like what I am seeing on Liberty's head. Is this a Contemporary Counterfeit I wonder?

I agree the coin's weird. It is also weird how the reverse rim separates from the denticles between 2 o'clock and 6 o'clock.

But why would someone counterfeit a common date hd?

Liberty's head looks like the Indian Head Nickel obverse.

I don't like the look of the rim of the reverse, perhaps it is the "color".

Best ROI while minimizing the chance of detection. The smart counterfeiters fake the cheap ones produced by the bazillions and in heavy circulation.

The face is off by a lot, the denomination is too large, definitely a counterfeit.
