I did not know that Denver made at least one aluminum cent. Do you think it will break the standing record for the most expensive coin?

One thing that I have been curious about is why no one counts the Smithsonian specimen? All I ever seem to read on the Aluminum cents is that only one, the Toven specimen, is known.

Similar to how the article says "In 2005, PCGS authenticated a 1974 aluminum cent struck at the Philadelphia Mint. It is certified PCGS MS62.", but again fails to mention the Smithsonian one.

Any ideas on why that is?

I saw this in my inbox earlier. The title caught me off guard as I didn't think there were any legally released.

Wonder if the government will seize these in the future like they did with the 1933 Double Eagles.
