I believe I saw a picture over on Pinterest a few days ago, pinned by The Purple Penny. An Australian coin struck on a split planchet. The coin has the obvious rough surface of a split. If your coin was struck on a split then the surface would be rough.
Sometimes the roll can end up too thin, so underweight blanks are stamped out. Then again the Canberra mint has not been stamping out blanks for many years. All outsourced to Korea (the worlds biggest exporter of them) so it could be a planchet for any of a score of countries.
Work out which countries struck coins of a similar alloy and size to your coin in the year (plus or minus one) that your coin is dated and then see if you can find out who supplies them.

The 5c in that link was struck on an already split planchet. See the tell-tale metal striations.

It is quite possible that it would not have a strong Beasley affect all the way around the legend because of it being thicker side of the split.
