Coin is AU condition and harshly cleaned by the looks of it, if so stay away from the coin since the value of a coin is lost when cleaned.

Thanks dollar,, I'll stick to the slabbed coins to take the guess work out of it.

to the CCF ... pleased to have you with us and hopeful that we can add some support and value to your collecting needs.

Slight personal divergence ... note your forum name and interest in a Texas Half Dollar ... brings back memories of my crew changes in Grand Isle, LA as a roughneck back in the day.

To the coin ... I agree with likely AU grade ... but honestly do not see the evidence for a 'harsh cleaning'.

Grading any coin by visual image is very difficult ... and I suspect the images you posted were scans rather than photographs ... making the task even more difficult since surface luster is lost in scans.

I personally would not back away from the coin as shown if it comes with some form of return privilege and you are comfortable with judging the originality of the surfaces in hand.

Final thought ...

Please re-consider this position ... slabbed coins have their place and I have many ... but the educated collector is capable of making informed decision using their own knowledge and experience.

We are always here to help.

I'll join those who have already responded and suggest the coin would grade AU; there is clearly wear on the high points on both sides of the coin.

To my eyes, the coin appears to have been dipped - and likely multiple times.
