I was browsing ebay and saw the distinctive "Astro-Turf" backround used by a seller.

He had been copy-and-pasting the London Ancient Coin company's listing titles, even leaving "LAC" in!

He has changed his ebay name to "ancient.necropolis.london", since 12/1/2014.
Up until then it was "jsmithuksales", when he created the account on 17/8/2013

His shop "Welcome" states:
"Welcome to my ebay Shop. I am a passionate Antiques collector and re-seller based in good old London, England. I specialize in Antiques and Ancient collectibles from Europe and the Mediterraneans."

However, his actual contact details, provided on all of his listings, state:
"Jason Smith
11 Lindow Square
LA1 1SE Lancaster, Lancashire
UK"

So it seems it is a joke on the LAC, since he clearly does not live in "good old London".

Which any real Londoner, like me, would never describe it in that way as if it was from a Hollywood "Dickensian" film set.

When I first saw him using "LAC"s name in his listing titles I notified the real "LAC"'s owner, she thanked me, but it is down to her to keep tabs on copyright infringement of her company name.

Whilst for buyers they must have a valid address, for sellers the policy on ebay seems hazy.

However:
"The Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 requires businesses to provide certain information about themselves, including the geographic address at which their business is established."

So that seller is contradicting himself if not violating the EC Directive.

Hi I am new and have noticed this guy seems to repost the same pictures. I cannot be sure, but I am monitoring him. Is he a known fraudster?

I recently had a dealing with this seller. I purchased a Britannicus AE-16 that turned out to be a very clever forgery; a forgery that had fooled several big dealers. When I contacted Jason Smith he allowed me to extend the return period to 45 days so the coin could be examined at a laboratory by John Lorenzo (who's on this list) to determine what sort of fake it was.

He said he works for someone else on the continent and his boss had received the coin from their European supplier. He was very interested in knowing if it was a fake or not.

I found him very friendly and helpful and I received a full refund from him including postage even before he had the coin back in his hands.

It was curious that the coin was mailed from this address:
Danny L
46 The Oaks
Swanley, Kent
BR8 7YR
England

That's what I can share.

I recently purchased a Vespasian Denarius from this seller, it was a cast fake.
(I posted the details earlier on this forum).
Upon contacting the seller and informing him of the situation he immediately
refunded my purchase price and shipping and told me to keep the coin.

He apologized profusely and said he will have a long discussion with his "supplier".

The problem here is when you contact a seller regarding a counterfeit, an ebay
robot takes over and opens a "case". As soon as the seller refunds the purchase
the case is "closed", there is basically no further record regarding the
transaction, no way to leave feedback and seller retains his stellar feedback rating.

The coin was also mailed from this address:

Swanley, Kent
BR8 7YR
