Hey everyone! I am very new to ancients and I have one I don't even know how to begin identifying. That old saying, 'It all looks greek to me', well whether it's Greek or Roman, I can't ID it and I need your help please ;)

You have a Roman coin of the Emperor Constantius II 337-361 AD. The reverse is know as the Fallen Horseman, this series was first struck circa 348 AD. The legends are DN CONSTANTIVS PF AVG and FEL TEMP REPARTIO.

Wow!! I actually am enthralled with these coins and have a lot so I definitely appreciate your help! Any advice you can give to a newcomer to see how you figured that out? When I look at the revers it looks like a man dragging a captive or something?

There is a sticky topic at the top of the Ancient coin forum titled, Books, downloads and website. There is ton of information and downloads that you can access from there that will help you learn about ancients. You can also post your coins and ask questions here, we love to help.

If you want to get into them, I suggest buying an Uncleaned lot. That really is a crash course in designs and reading the legends. If you PM me, ill point you in the right direction on ebay to get a lot.

Hm...well, I occasionally post good lots I'm not interested in (either too large, too expensive or the good coins are ones I've already had a crack at). When you get to 50 posts, PM me then and ill give you links to good ones I see. A corker sold this evening (Allectus, Carausius, Gallic Emperors, rare reverses) and I've got my eye on a good one tomorrow morning - if it goes past my budget ill post it here.

Or you can click on his ebay listings and send him a message that way. Ben will sort you out no problem.

Welcome!
