Finally bit the bullet and switched to Hartill's catalog of Chinese cast coins.
Now I'm wondering why I didn't do it sooner. I shelved Schjoth and Ding except for minor points of reference.
Anybody know if Hartill's book on Korean cash is the same format, and is it worth switching from Mandel?

Not sure about his works on Korean cash but his book on Japanese cash coins is great.

I have Hartill's Cast Chinese Coins and Early Japanese Coins books and like them both.

I never had Ding or Schjoth or any other Chinese reference but most reviews I've read are similar to yours.

I do have an old JNDA but prefer Hartill's book for the pre-1870 coins, especially the Kanei Tsuho.

So given the good reception of the other two books, I fully expect the Korean book to supercede previous references.

I'm still looking for a copy for sale that doesn't involve ordering from UK. If I get my copy before you get yours I'll reply further.

It's print on demand. Search by ISBN 978-0755215942

I'm not sure why a print on demand book would be only available from UK sellers though. Strange.

Thank you for your kind comments.

The Korean book is hardback. Authors Online cannot print hardback in the USA, but you should have no problems in getting it either from Author Online or Amazon. See if Scott Semans has got any copies for sale.
