Hello everyone, I'm new here and stumbled upon this site while searching for this coin set for my son. My wife is expecting this year again and I snagged this years set today. I missed out in '11 trying to find this set for my son. Anybody here willing to help me get one of these.

Ouch! I just looked on ebay - cheapest was $175 - I had to purchase one of these in 2012 - as the baby didn't arrive till late 2011 - back then, I paid $54 (as per the previous thread) for it delivered in USA. (Canadian Mom). Anyway, I don't know what made these so rare - but there you have it $175 - $200 on ebay. I don't think anybody will send it off to you at or near list. Good luck, and congratulations!

If I remember correctly, one year ago, someone also searched for this set, and I was surprised, that the asking price for it is $100+ ... is it rare? I found only one listing on ebay, for $199 (?) But you might be interesting in alternative set: (2011 Happy Birthday set, which also has special quarter) 2011 Canada Birthday 7-coin Gift Set with Struck 25-centhere, an example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-Canada...em58aa0db2cfAdded: I found the desired set on the Talisman website...well it listed for $89...sound reasonable: http://www.talismancoins.com/servle...tail?no=1430And IMO, thats even better, than the set: in addition or instead of, you might buy the : Canada 2011 New Baby - Welcome to the World - Footprints $4 Pure Silver Proofhttp://www.talismancoins.com/servle...tail?no=1579Hope, it helps edited:Talisman doesn't have the set, sorry

Thanks. What a great help you have all been. I'll run these options by my wife and make a decision. Thanks so much!!

I suppose it's "rare" because it's the kind of coin that most people won't flip. I mean, if you bought it or received it because you had a baby that year, you won't sell it.

I put a low-ball bid of 'issue price' $19.95 to the guy selling it for $175 - he came back with a counter offer of $155. I still think it's ridiculous for a non-precious metal 38,000+ mintage set.

Actually, this set is for some reason really really hard to find. This is IMO the best baby set ever done by RCM... the 2012 and 2013 ones are nice too, and similar, but the 2011 is much better, with the "BORN IN 2011 / NÉ EN 2011" letterings. I liked them very much and look after at some point in late-2012 for my niece (born in 2011), but were already selling at a premium... wasn't sure why so I ended up waiting to finally pay even higher for it. Why this high premium, with this mintage? Not sure at all, and it's not like you will buy the 2011 one for your 2012-baby just because it's looks better... but one thing is certain, this premium is not going to lower with time. As arianzo stated already, this is a set that once given is never resold, baby's name written on the cardboard, etc... maybe 16-17 years later when small baby now like beer more than a nice souvenir! haha Anyway, the link Lostwords provided above (thepitcc) is actually my webstore [thanks to you ;)] so feel free to PM me if interested, I can give better pricing for a fellow CCFer ;)

Hey Tipit, nice website, it's great to see people doing alternatives to ebay! When did you launch, I've bookmarked your site. Is the software expensive? Cheers !

@pocket_change Thanks for the kind words! I manage to make a nice website, spent some time on the logo design (not that much actually but I kind of like it now, after many tries :)) Actually, I made it publicly available around late September... with only a few items then. I add items once in a while when I have some time to do it, and I still have many different items to add, but it takes time, going to safety deposit boxes, make inventory, confirm it's in perfect condition, take pictures, insert item into the website... takes time, but I like it! I also have an MTG (Magic: The Gathering) section that I want to eventually develop for selling MTG cards), but it's gonna come later. Alternative to ebay for crazy fees, and alternative to Kijiji/Craigslist for crazy lowballers, no-show and all bad things that can happen. I never really announced it nor did any marketing for it so there is not that much orders, but I can see more and more visits/week on the Google Webmaster Tools or Analytics. It's a hobby for me now, if it can be more than that in the future, that would be nice. Anyway, I don't want to hijack this thread for "marketing purpose", but this is an interesting topics for collectors/investors (maybe another topic one day ;)) so I'll keep it simple, but if you guys want some items in there, just send me a message, I sure can give a discount for you CCF guys, depending of the item (min. 3% for EMT payments... up to 10% for certain items I got in bulk, like SilverBulletBullion by example). For software, I'm using OpenCart (widely used in webstore developement). It's opensource and makes the process easier than beginning from scratch... but still, free doesn't mean easy! :) Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics help to see the traffic on your website, etc.

Canadians gave birth to 378,762 babies in 2011. I suppose, if only 10% of the parents were 'looking' for a birth year set for their offspring, that would leave about a thousand empty handed, thus creating a demand for the set. I still believe, when they weren't all sold by the end of 2011, somebody(ies)scooped them up to reap a profit - by flipping them later. ref: http://www.statcan.gc.ca/tables-tab...o04a-eng.htm

But, as far as I know, these sets are "minted to demand"... so until mid-January of the following year, you usually still can order them at issue from the Mint. There was no way of knowing this set would do that well until later on.
