Japanese and Chinese are (or can be) written using the same Chinese characters; they are just pronounced differently. So it's impossible to tell which language your "mark" is intended to represent.

The inscription is engraved, so it is likely to be a unique piece, rather than a mass-produced item.

Counting from the top, the second line is a date: "Year 32, Month 8". But I can't tell just from looking at it which calendar it is supposed to be counting in, whether Japanese or Chinese. But the character representing "30", as I understand it, has never been in popular use in Japan so I suspect it is of Chinese origin. In which case, "Year 32" would presumably be in the Republic calendar and equate to AD 1943.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

It is Chinese, so I can't offer too much help here other than to tell you it's not Japanese.
