The Alaskan token is an American Municipal token, they were popular during the 1960's. (I have several in my collection for different cities and they are all from that time period). I do not know the company that produced them but they all are similar sizes, same composition and have similiar wording and font. They usually celebrate some cenntenial, either of the city or state, although yours seems to have a play on that theme, as it is celbrating the old tradition of grubstaking. Much like the Canadian Municipal tokens these usually had an experation date on them. However, I don't see one on yours. As far as value goes, I usually pick this stuff up out of the bin at my local coin shop for a dollar. Not a lot of people seem to collect these newer tokens. On ebay they go for a few bucks, but I often see that they dont' see that often.

All the ones I've seen are brass or coppernickel, and from the looks of it I would say yours is too.

I do know that some of them were minted in silver and gold for certain orders, but I have never come across one. From what I've read the mintages for the silver and gold ones were pretty low, usually less than 10 and were distributed to local dignitaries, e.g. mayors, people related to the founding of the town, donors and the like.
