Not sure that to think of this. Is the Mint going to start issuing reverse proof bullion with various privy marks and at a cost of 4x spot?
If this is a one off, then I'd consider adding it to my collection but I'm not interested in collecting a series of them.

Heard this too. Now, RCM really became smarter. The Mint offers directly bullion items (well, it semi- numismatic) to the public, for twice of bullion price. What I think for myself- yes, I interested to buy, but just want to be sure, that it kind of 'premium bullion' And hope, that the Mint will not over-flood the market with such items.

This is the money fair for the F12 & F15 SML series isn't it? "Commemorates the twelve/fifteen winning coin designs of the Berlin Money Fair". Not sure if this is an F15 or something else entirely. No picture or mention of what the privy mark actually is in the message. It does come in a clamshell case though.

I have to disagree here. I like this a lot. I also feel coming from the mint $80 for a SML is a lot, but to be honest if they released this to just the dealers the price would probably jump to 80 or higher anyway. This looks to be among one of the lowest sml privy mintages. There are only a hand full just below it.

Quoting from Charlton here :-) Privy mark SMLs have been minted since 1998. Usually with a Reverse Proof (Specimen) finish. Only 4 have a bullion finish. I believe most of them have been produced as 'private' releases where a specific company or dealer orders them and receives the bulk of them for distribution/sale so they are not normally available for sale directly from the RCM. Like the Year of the Dragon one in 2012. Also, I believe the F12s were first minted for a dealer in 2007 and it's only the last couple of years that the RCM has been selling the sets. Charlton lists 32 up to and including the 2013 Year of the Snake. Book value for 66 grade ranges from $45 (2012 Year of the Dragon, mintage 25,000) to $150 (2005 Liberation [of the Netherlands, tulip], mintage 3,500). I've seen the early F12s sell in the range of $200 at their peak. Mintages range from 3,500 (2005 Liberation) to 75,000 (2009 Tower Bridge) with most in the range of 10,000-25,000.

Does anybody know if this one is similar to another sml released last month in terms of finish? My guess is this privy mark sml will command a decent premium in the not too distant future because of the low mintage and there are quite a few people who have to have all things maple.

The point here - although, current "Berlin Fair" Privy SML will be preferred over "Replica SML" (the difference in the mintage), but if RCM constantly will issue different privy Maples (even with the same 7.500 mintage each one), so for the long term, the non-privy one will be more unique. Currently, I would say - nice to have both, but like CC-Ottawa wrote: Quote: " but I'm not interested in collecting a series of them"

SilverBug, thanks. A bit surprised that it is already available for purchase at the Vancouver store. For $80, the Mint should guarantee these coins will not develop any milk spots.

@Mrpiedfort - True. Not a problem for the Reverse Proof ones like this one but the odd bullion one they put out still gets milk spots.

I've seen not one 2012 Titanic Privy SML (Reverse Proof finish) with the milk spots and white areas. On the Reverse Proof Finish SMLs they will be less noticeable.
But again, Titanic Privy was distributed as ordinary bullion SML. Hope that the new ones (for $80) have a different approach.

Quote: Awaiting stock That was fast. The dealers still have it in stock (CA, CC&C, Gatewest), so I think, significant portion of the mintage went to the dealers...

For the low price of $79.95, these will develop milk spots.
