I've come across a few of those coins, but I thought the first one was more of a struck through cloth or grease and the second one was poor plating or trails? I thought a rippled coin was more like waves all over the whole coin?

lots of people have different ideas about this type of coin..it is caused by excessive grease on the die leaving this first coins struck with rippled effect and it decreases after each strike.grease could be all to one side of die an in some cases it can cover over 70% of the coin, thats what I been told,,,as far as showing ripples enough for the naked eye to see enough grease must be left to create the ripple effect,,,,,,,,,,,,,
