My father has asked me to look for some information about this set that he wants to sell while he's in Florida. He forgot to look it up in his coin book before he left Ontario and he isn't computer literate.
It's in the original burgundy case with blue satin lining and it has the gold engraving that says "FIRST COINAGE IN CANADA 1908
Royal Mint OTTAWA". He says the box is in excellent condition and the silver coins are heavily toned. Overall it's a very nice set.
Now my questions are:
1. Were there regular and specimen sets issued?
2. Is it better to have it graded before selling? I don't think he wants to take the time to do that.
3. What's the difference between the sets that say "first coinage in Canada 1908
Royal Mint Ottawa" and "first coinage of Canadian Mint Ottawa 1908"
Thanks for any advice you can give me!
