Found this coin while metal detecting and was wondering if it might be real. I have no background in coin collecting and metal detect for fun.

Wanted to get an opinion before I tried taking it to a coin shop.

Thanks

Jim

Wow!

While it's Not a Mint Error it's still has very "unique" damage. I am perplexed as how the image of Lincoln is superimposed like a die clash on the Reverse.

looks like the obverse was tooled on a lathe, with the concentric circles.

it was tooled on a lathe I also don't know how it got the clash "look" to it but you never know. either way. it is a real coin but I am not sure you will find someone to take it as a cent lol

I'm guessing that it was punched with a hard-flat surface on the obverse and a softer surface on the reverse which would cause a ghost image of the obverse on the reverse. Whatever was used to punch the obverse was probably cut on a lathe giving it that look.

Wonder if someone was practicing to create novelty coins and was testing their setup? I've seen souvenier coins where pennies were used as the planchet. When I used to buy mixed tokens/foriegn coins to go through, I found several with some sort of dinosaur theme.
