Very misleading headline. Implies a seizure of random gold, rather thaan a seizure of specific coins whose ownership was in contention.

The famous double eagles really are the worst possible example for trying to argue the dangers of Soviet secret police style seizures. Multiple levels of judicial review is basically the exact opposite of that.
For the record I still think they have more of those and they were floated as a test group. It was enough you wouldnt be suspicious of them holding back, but at the same time the guy taking them had free reign on them for a while with no oversight of what was actually melted.

I heard that Thomas Woods wrote that book while in residence at the Briarcliff Mental Institution (under the personal care of Sister Jude Martin and Dr. Arden), while he was also spending a lot of time counting his Joffrey Baratheon Golden Dragon coins.

Old news but most of the time the government gets their way, the family can appeal till the cows come home, or go break even after they spend all their money on attorney fees.

More like, "Government takes back what Grandpa Israel stole from them."
By my count there are still 4 missing ?

yingyang, I don't mind all the links to sensationalism based news stories but it looks kind of spammy the way you never participate in the thread itself. What is your point of view on these topics? My view, I don't really buy they were stolen for sure from the government anymore than the V nickels or class 3 1804's were. someone with connections seems to have gotten their hands on them from someone at the mint, I'm sure they traded $20 gold coins for these, so I don't see it as stealing. I think they should take all the 1913 V nickels back and put them in the Smithsonian if they say the 1933 is subject to seizure. alas, that wont happen.
