Hi All,

I have noticed that the 1 ounce Chinese Silver Panda Coins are being sold at a higher amount on E-bay by a host of different sellers for more than its introduction amount 5 weeks ago? I have bought 3 of the 2014 Panda's within a week of each other for between 26.00 to 28.00 roughly. Now I see them in the ballpark of 30.00 to 32.00. Are these going up faster than other world bullion 1 ounce silver coins for a reason?

Also does every silver 1 ounce coin like the Chinese panda's are actually minted by their own country or do they have another do it for them?

Thanks
John

Always a premium for the pandas plus silver on the market is $20.50 a ounce but you can not get it for that price add another premium.

The Panda's have always been one of the most popular bullion issues in the world. They were also one of the first gov't issued silver and gold bullion coins starting in 1982. They are minted by 3 different government run mints in China. The Shenzhen, Shanghai and Shenyang mints as well as other smaller mints. I have collected these for years and have an on going Dansco set and a slabbed set

The earlier mintages were anywhere from 10,000 to 500,000. The last few years the mintages have been increased to 8 mil. I have always said, (and have been chided by the silver bullion know it all's here) that even though the mintages have increased, the market for these has just begun. Prior to 2011, the Chinese populus was forbidden to own bullion or bullion coins. Post 2011, there are now approx. 2 billion more people who are now able buy these coins. Do the math.

Now the naysayers can tell me how the #2 economy in the world is not going to be a jingoistic market for these coins.

Some countries outsource their bullion coins (Armenia, Fiji...) while others are domestic (most of the well-established ones).

A significant percentage of which could never afford one even if they wanted one.

2011 wasnt exactly yesterday, theres been a couple years now for that aspect to influence the market yet in 2014 were discussing a later dates price moving UP to 30 dollars.

Theres always going to be a premium here over Maples or ASEs simply because logistically it costs more to get them. However pushing the mintage into the millions has significantly watered down their numismatic premium. You cant find an early date for anywhere close to 30 or 40 or 50 ect.

They have a pretty design but it really is as simple as you cant go from making a couple hundred thousand to almost 10 million and expect them to be treated the same by the market.

Gotta agree with BB. All my early to mid 2000's sell for $60 and up, unslabbed. The newer Pandas probably will never carry that kind of premium, IMO. The Chinese simply watered down the market, too much, which was a good idea for them. Not so much for the collector. Nevertheless, I'm still buying. After all, tradition is tradition.
