A number of years ago, I wanted to study the varieties of William III coppers, much as Peck had done with later copper issues. I wrote to the British Museum, asking if there had been any articles on the subject in the British Numismatic Journal.

I received a kind response from the then-Secretary of the BNS. He suggested that the effort would not be worth my time. "that very small varieties on the William III coppers are not worth much numismatic study". He went on to say (among other things), "I don't know of any of our members who are particularly interested."

I put my little group of halfpence with 'differences' away.

Bill

Thanks Peter. Truly an amazing collection!

(Does anyone now collect these by Nicholson variety? I've got a little box . . . . ).
