I am wondering how much it costs to ship with tracking to Canada and the US. It would just be one coin in a letter or envelope. So far I have sold one coin and when I went to print a shipping label, the price turned out to be over $11! So I went to my local post office and shipped it with a stamp for $1.50... with no tracking... Are these prices ebay charges for a shipping label normal for just one coin with tracking? If so, how is it profitable to sell coins under $10 on ebay? Thanks. Edited by Nathancrh1 02/15/2014 10:48 am

I would go to your local post office and ask for the cheapest way to send them.

For postage with tracking $11 is quite reasonable. Obviously you can't sell coins for $10 with tracking. For lower priced coins you have to send them via regular mail and take your chances.

Thanks both of you for a fast response. So DBM, at what price would you use tracking, $40-$50?

Yes, at about the $50 mark.

Quote: at what price would you use tracking At the point where youd be very unhappy if someone claimed it never arrived and you were out your money. Buyers can see what shipping will cost, they can make the decision if they want to pay the shipping or not imo. Theres no chance I'm putting a 40 dollar coin in an envelope and taking my chances though

You can't print shipping label ( ebay) for a envelope (that cost aprox $1 at your post office). Use ebay shipping label only to send parcels.

Obviously I can only give my personal experience. I have bought a number of items from the USA. Only one item got "lost" in the mail and ironically it was one that the shipper refused to ship to Canada directly and had it sent to a friend in the USA. (It was on the subsequent relay the item was lost.) By the same token in 3 to 4 years of purchasing coins only one item shipped within Canada was lost (because it was nor properly secured in the envelope.) Generally you're relying on the integrity of the purchaser, watch their ratings as purchasers should watch the ratings of the seller. The postal services are actually quite good if occasionally slow (but secure the coin carefully)

Ok thanks, I kind of understand how it works but I'm a little uneasy about putting all of my trust into a seller I have never met before. I will use tracking for more expensive coins that I can't afford to lose in the mail though. Thanks again.
