I generally don't buy multiples of the same coin, but stumbled on to a deal for 14 1939 VF-EF dollars a while back for just under $12 ea. As a new collector I'm slowly picking up the terminology and have learned that there may be double HP or triple HP with these coins as well as other error possibilities with these 39's.

What are you using for magnification to see this type of detail, I'm considering one of those USB microscopes that I see on Amazon for $30 to $50. I have a couple of point and shoot usb cameras but I don't expect that I would get the resolution needed, would my skype lifecam work projected onto the big screen it seems to have great focus

Suggestions for an inexpensive loupe or usb microscope would be appreciated. I realize that the 1939 is a pretty common dollar as far as silver dollars go, but I just couldn't resist a sale...:)

12 bucks for a silver dollar is a great buy.. You're getting it just near spot prices..

I would buy silver dollars at this price all day and never worry one bit... but I LOOVE me my silver.

Now for seeing the double or triple HP... a 10x loupe would work fine..

I have actually ordered a 10x magnification with and LED light... and of all the things I've heard people love it.. viewing piece is just a bit smaller than a business card so a good size to work with.

I don't mind using a loupe ... but to look at LOTS and LOTS of coins I would get tired of squinting.. and if you hold things close to the loupe you can get shadows.. this product eliminated both of those issues..

Had a few minutes before I left for work tonight and tried the Microsoft Lifecam to view and take pictures and it works great - just used a random dime I had in my pocket as I was pressed for time but this method will be much quicker than scanning all my coins to include in my inventory software. I will however still need to find a loupe or magnifier to view the finer details

MMMM do I need a certain number of posts before I can post a picture? - OK got it

Like I said these were taken in haste, I'll work the lighting and on a better set up to hold the lifecam steady - just used a PS3 controller I had sitting on the coffee table

I just don't have the magnification to get up close and personal - while the webcam has great pics because of it's focus capability it does not magnify

Here's a pic of one of the 39's

This is as big as I can get, I checked all the coins and did not notice any doubling
