Looks like it was plated at one time or coated with something.Also appears to be wearing off especially on the obverse

Some plating companies show their handy work by plating cents to give out to their customers. I know because I received one from a friend who got his there. What else could you hand out that only cost you one cent and the cost of plating?

very cool find, a lot people also sell them on ebay a novelty item in bulk they got a whole section at ebay.com/bhp/gold-plated-penny just hope they dont plate my once in a lifetime find penny imagine finding a nice 1909 s vdb but it plated
