Hi There everybody.

I have inherited a whole stash of coins! Hurrah! They're all so amazing and quite old. Now I need to try to identify them all.

This is one I found. Its quite dirty and I don't want to clean it up until I know how to do so with out damaging the coin itself.

I don't know much about this particular one, I'm hoping somebody can help me! Its date stamped 1788! I'm guessing that its copper?

The next coin is a silver one ( think its silver)
Date stamped 1887

Any help or thoughts would be great thanks

Bottom coin is from England, and I'm guessing that the top coin would come from isle of man

The first coin reminds me of some 'Isle Of Man' coins I have seen. The Obverse is obviously King George III - say 1862 and the second one is a British coin with Queen Victoria and 1887 showing. The denomination is very similar to the two shillings.
Every little bit helps.

I am convinced that the first coin IS an Isle Of Man 'Penny' from 1862. Now I just need to be proved wrong by someone more knowledgeable than me.
I also believe that the second coin is known as a 'Double Florin'.

First is a coin of the Isle of Man. Probably a penny of 1786. Very worn and not much more damage you can do. A couple of hours soak in olive oil followed by a gentle wipe and rinse under water might get some dirt off.

Second a Victorian florin(?) (Florin (2 shillings 28.5 mm diameter) or Double Florin (4 shillings (20p) 36mm))

I wouldn't clean it at all as that will damage it. The contrast makes it hard to see detail but it's not obviously worn. Bigger photos (ideally on a lighter background as often cameras average out light levels making a shiny coin on a dark background too bright to see detail) might help but it's a common enough year so ...well, don't go eyeing up any sports cars just yet!

For future reference, if you give the size (diameter in mm) it's easier to identify the denomination (face value) of the coin.

An offbeat suggestion here....To help identify your coins...View a-bay site of Asym.pton, it is a 3 in one site Asyn, Paper, and for yu to look at there coins from around the globe-Labelled...So when yu see one that is like yours then read the country and bam...
