I need a favor. The Civil War Token Book by George and Melvin Fuld has been on the list of possible additions to my numismatic library for some time. They only show the book's cover online, and those books aren't usually brought to coin shows. I would like to see a page or two from the Fuld book to decided if it is worth the extra cost for any additional information above what the internet and my other books provide. Maybe post a scan of two pages used to help identify a Civil War Token Thanks

Fuzzy, I would, but I don't own that book. The new Bowers CWT token book yes, but not the FULD book. I can't believe that nobody else owns that one. Lots of reads for this topic, but no replies...

Not a huge CWT collector, I have maybe a couple dozen random ones. Have the Fuld Store Card Book. Personally I prefer my 4th ed. U.S. Tokens 1700-1900, by Rulau.

I have both the Fuld Patriotic CWT book and the new Bowers book. The Bowers book has nicer, color pictures of the die varieties, but the Fuld book (black & white photos) has some key information that I don't find in the Bowers book. Fuld has a Die-A-Gram section that helps determine the subtle differences between 2 very similar dies. An example are the patriotic Lincoln dies 132 and 132A - same description for both in Bowers, but Fuld's Die-A-Grams helped identify the differences.
A couple pictures of pages of the Fuld book wouldn't do the job in describing the book as there are so many different sections of information. A combination of owning both the Fuld and Bowers books would be best case scenario. Note that while Fuld has a separate book for Patriotics and another for Store Cards, the Bowers book covers both. If you want the expense of only one book the Bowers may be best. I've only collected some of the Patriotics and I prefer the Fuld book, for the reasons I stated.

Impossible to describe the Fuld book in a couple pictures, but here are a couple to demonstrate what I was discussing. From "Patriotic Civil War Tokens" By George & Melvin Fuld. Fifth Revised Edition, 2005: Both Fuld & Bowers have their good points. I just prefer Fuld myself. No experience with the Fuld book on store cards.

Good pics Mackwork, the Bowers book is going to a second printing, so maybe the strange 5 digit reverse number errors will be corrected. The Fuld books are still the best overall references for CWT's. Fuzzy you should know that there are two Fuld books, one on Patriotic tokens. For this one the 4th edition is the most current and there is a 4th Revised Edition from the Civil War Token Society that has updated material. For Store Cards, the 2nd edition is still current, but CWTS is working on a important 3'd edition update, but no release date has been announced yet. Take a look at http://www.cwtsociety.com/ and look at the Member pricing on reference books. You won't find any better deals on current references anywhere. Plus as a member you will receive the club publication with well researched articles by members.

Thanks mackwork, you are correct. The most current Patriotic book is the 5th edition.
Can't wait for the new store card book myself. My Wm. Jackson MI525C06b will be in it.

Thanks for the responses and the images. I suppose if Civil War Tokens were a higher priority to me, I would get the Fuld book.
