I inherited quite a few coins recently and was going threw them checking to if I could send out some to a TPG. This is my first post but love the site and spend lots of time on it, I've learned a ton. I have at least 6 nice gold coins that I'm confident enough in sending but I have one that just looks too good. Has a great shine not coin shine but almost jewelry shine (not as visible in the photos). Can someone offer their opinion on this I would much appreciate it. It has a reeded edge but I forgot to photo it. The weight is close 4.14 grams .146 oz and diameter is close also 17.7 mm but that is from an old micrometer. Thanks for any insight, Love the forums

Welcome to the posting side of Coin Community, usacol.

I don't see anything about this coin which makes me feel it's fake - weight/size are correct, details are as I'd expect of a lightly-circulated coin. It's the last year of production, lending credence for it to have survived relatively unscathed. I'm bothered a bit by your description of the finish, though - you've nicely described a coin which may have been polished, perhaps with a cotton cloth or something which wouldn't leave obvious deep scratches. And this being an incuse design, one could expect to impart that "shine" to most of the visible surfaces.

scans are hard to tell especially behind mylar
cam shots, even a smart phone, can reveal so much on the surface details and the finish

looks unc based on wear and details
you'll want to upload better cam pics to get a real opinion on TPG submission do or don't

Thanks, I took some more with 3 different cameras and these are the best. I hope this helps to see if its worth sending or not. I guess I need to revisit the photos forum. I did take one to try and capture how shiny this is.

Looks genuine, looks polished, and looks like it's worth $250 tops. No way I'd have that coin graded if that's what you mean by "sending in". Have fun!

I don't seen anything that looks suspicious. The coin appears to have been polished while in a bezel. I don't think it would be worth it to get it certified.

Thank you all, I had read that that one was highly faked and the fact that is was so shiny made me think that it was fake I can live with polished. Knowing it looks real it goes back to the safe for the kids someday.
