Howdy! I am a layman of many hobbies, so I like to look through my change for interesting bits. The other day I found a North Carolina quarter with a dark circle on it. It is about 1cm in diameter, and the line 2mm thick. It is a perfect circle that is perfectly centered on the back (tail - obverse?) of the coin. You need to angle the coin to clearly see it, but you can easily see it when doing so. Any idea what it is? I was hoping it was something common that happens. I will try to take a pic of it tonight, but any guesses would be helpful. Thanks! ETA here is the image: http://mister44.com/projects/photos/quarter.jpgEdited by Mister44 07/16/2007 10:07 am

I figured as much, but I was hoping that it was a common thing where one could say "Oh thats just a wigglewack mark from when there is too much gobblyboo on the whatsis."
Pics will come tonight.

Well, see? You've got it figured out already, anyways.

OK - here are my pics. Note - you can actually see it better when it is in the shadows, thus the two darker ones are not super crisp because one can only hold the camera so still. There shots of the same coin. Let me know what you think! http://mister44.com/projects/photos/quarter.jpg

Aw - no good guesses on what is wrong with the coin? It is just too circular and too perfectly centered to be some random event. I am not even looking to make a mint off of it (pun intended) I just want to satiate my curiosity.
Also this is the friendliest darn forum I have ever been to. Makes me want to collect coins - but I have too many hobbies as it is. Anyone know a good stamp forum?

I would say that the coin was sitting on the night stand with a dime or a smaller coin sitting on it and it came out of a sweaty pocket. not positive but that makes sense to me. Gary
