Going to be a 3 generation grand time this weekend as my dad, myself and my two sons head out to the Greater Chicago Coin, Currency & Collectible Show in Tinley Park Illinois. Been to this show 3 times now and there is ALWAYS something to be had there. There are 220 vendors set up, admission and parking is free and you get to make some great friends as you peruse the show. Hoping to fill some empty holes in the collection, like a Capped Bust quarter, Seated Liberty dollar and of course continuing my hunt for Morgans and Peace dollars I don't yet have. Let the hunt begin!

Sounds like good fun! Unfortunately none of my family is into collecting, so it's just me, myself and I when I go to shows. Hope you find some good deals.

Thanks WheatBack.. We've gone as a group the last three times and while both my boys don't collect (yet), they are more interested each time we go so who knows! My dad and grandfather got me into collecting some 45 years ago and we're still at it. He's 81 now and in good health and is always looking for a bargain. It's fun going with him to view the master hagler at work.. :)

Sure wish I could go to that one. Just to lazy to drive that far in this weather. Not sure about the Weather this weekend due to the idiots that just can't predict what is happening even as they try telling what's going on. Supposed to be a really snowy weekend with really cold temperatures. That show is supposed to be a several day show and gets bigger all the time. While there look for a dealer with several tables named R. Griffiths. Has some really great coins but is usually about 20% higher than should be. I love that show due to so many local dealers with normal prices. Good luck and have fun.

Yeah, the weather is supposed to stink but they've already reduced the amount of snow Saturday night into Sunday from a whopping 24" (yes, you heard the right) to a 6-8 inch event. I'm hoping it continues in the direction. For me it's about a 35 minute ride to get there and I really look forward to the shows there. They hold three a year and I try to hit all three. If you can't find something there for the collection you aren't looking I'll try to locate the dealer you mentioned. The last couple of times I've been to this show there has been a dealer there, can't remember the name, who has some of the nicest old copper I've ever seen. Can't afford his prices but it sure is fun to look and drool. The show starts today and runs through Saturday. Great fun to be had for sure.

He passed away a few years ago at 88, but I remember visiting the LCS with him every Saturday. It was interesting to me, but it never really sunk in until I got older and that's when I really got the collecting bug. I bet your boys will get into eventually -- I've been exposed to collecting ever since I can remember thanks to my grandfather, so I supposed it's ingrained in me.. It just took a while before I realized it. On a side note, post some photos of your acquisitions; It's always fun to see what folks pick up.

As far as my boys are concerned, I think it's hitting them already as they volunteer to go with us now. They don't have a lot of expendable cash but dad and gramps helps out. I don't push but it is really fun watching the infection take over

I couldn't modify the original topic but wanted to give an update as to what took place today at the coin show. It was supposed to be three generations going to the show but got kind of turned on it's ear. You see my mother ended up in the hospital with a very serious condition. She's fought off (successfully) lung cancer and double by pass surgery. Now her lung surgery was successful but took 2/3rds of her left lung. She ran into extreme breathing problems yesterday and so my dad was not able to attend. Now I wasn't going but my mom and dad both said to go that there wasn't anything that could be done at that point. Seeing my dad worry as he was I thought I would go and at least pick up the one coin he wanted which was a simple 1908 Indian Head cent. I could get to the show and get back shortly after visiting hours began so my sons and I went. Show was awesome as it always was and the three of us fanned out to find the best 1908 we could locate for him and this is what my oldest boy located.. How'd he do? 1908 Indian Head Cent We found it quickly enough where I had a little time to look for myself before heading to the hospital. These are my finds. How'd I do? 1926-D Peace Dollar 1934-D Peace Dollar 1852 Large Cent 1834 Capped Bust Quarter 1829 Half Cent Sorry for the long post but it's been an even longer day. It must have been karma as when I got to the hospital my mom was doing MUCH better and my dad looked much relieved and was truly excited about the 1908 IHC. My son looked so proud to have made his gramps day. While all along I know my moms improvement was what really made his day. Thanks for looking....

And don't forget there is another, but much smaller one, on Suncay, March 2 in Palatine. Then one on Sunday, March 9 in countryside. Then March 16th in Itasca.

Very nice coins. I went to the very same show after finding about it from your post. It was my first coin show that I went to and I must say it certainly wasn't the last one.

Thank you, they do three shows a year there, February, June and September I believe. Always a good time there. Thanks to all on the thoughts of my mom. It turned out to be an even worse weekend as both my Mom and my mother-in-law ended up in the hospital..
