The set looks like it contains a cameo Franklin half dollar, with what oddly enough looks like a small carbon streak just over the 'T' in 'TRUST'. I really want to get a better look at it but the cellophane obstructs my view of the coin quite a bit. I would also like to crack the dime out too to put in my Dansco album, but that is a less pressing issue. So I would really appreciate some opinions on whether I should open the set or not. I have some airtites that I can store the coins in long term, and would be happy to do so. Would opening the cellophane lower the value at all? or does it not matter? Iv'e only kept them in there this long for the 'cool' factor. Sealed sets like these are far and few between where I live. Many thanks Matt :D P.S One word answers are welcome :D Edited by mcstone 02/27/2014 12:25 pm

More than one word (already) but since they sell for around $19-22 and you think there might be more value by opening it I don't see why not....

If the one coin is close to or more than the whole set itself id say open it.

It's really a personal choice. I see no drop in value opening the set, if anything the price of individual coins exceeds the price of the set, so one could argue the value increases when opened. If your not selling, that's where the personal choice comes in. Cameo's with these coins can increase the value quite a bit, I don't really know the frequency of Cameo's in 1963 but some of these (Cameo Franklin's) warrant slabbing.
My sets are all in original packaging but none are exceptional.

Aren't you glad? Kinda of a rush too. I have cracked many proof and mint sets, some I had since I was a teenager (quite a few years ago).

I love freeing coins from 1960's to early 1980's cellophane. Depending how the coins have been stored over the years can cause some real issues. Can't wait to see pics!

If I remember, and I probably don't, it's probably good that you took the coins out of that mint packaging. There were several years that was not favorable to the longterm storage of coins.

Haha! Totally right Duke, it was very exiting! and I am totally chuffed. Although I not very good at all at taking pictures of proof coins, I will give it the old college try! I'll post pics if I can get any decent ones. :) thanks for the advice Carmykle, I will look into that for the future. :)
Thanks for all the keen interest guys, it means a lot. :D
