Recently I have become interested in coins from the pre-Roman conquest era, which is quite a step from the normal 20th century milled coins I have collected so far!

Though I have avoided buying any coins due to my somewhat dubious knowledge of this era, can anyone recommend any good books on Iron age British coins? And reputable coin dealers in the UK? And any other tips / information would be appreciated.

I am comfortable buying my normal range of coins on ebay, but would not really be prepared to buy on ebay for this type of coin, unless it is a very well establish coin dealer using ebay, as to be honest I can not yet tell a fake celtic coin from a genuine one.

Thanks
Robert

Chris Rudd is probably the biggest name in Celtic coins in Britain; even here in Australia they advertise in the local coin collector magazines. Been in the business for decades. They might be pricier than ebay, but at least you know that what you see is what you'll get, and that what you'll get will be genuine and identified properly.

I don't know or have good Celtic books, but there's a book section on the Chris Rudd website.

VCoins is a collection of online sellers, much like ebay, but the focus was, at least when started, on ancient coins. I looked into it, but the dealer cost is high. And there is a certification of ancient coins possible. Just like it is fun to read and comment here, you can always look there and see the extent of coins available, then figure out who is honorable.
