I'm curious as to what price members are currently able to purchase common Morgan and Peace dollars. I'm about to pick some up and I don't want to over pay. I know this question comes up occasionally and I'm sorry for bringing it up again but I'd like to see current prices. Thanks for the help in advance.

Depends what you are asking. Do you want raw or certified? Raw commons are around $25-30 (lower MS and circulated). Slabbed, varies.

Like most coins dates, mints, condition, where purchased all make differences. You could buy one from a dealer that sells very high, on ebay, a coin show, coin store and on and on with all the differences possible. And too you would have to watch for fakes. I've seen some well beat up, worn out, dented ones of common dates for about $15. Then too there are some in the thousands. Just to vague a question.

Go to ebay and do a search for the coin your looking for, then on the left hand side you'll see an option that says "Sold." Check that box and you can find out what they've been selling for.

Before buying any, I'd get a decent scale, weight is the easiest way to detect fakes. I got a steel 1923 Peace dollar last week but ebay's buyer protection got my money back for me. A normal Peace dollar should weigh around 26.7 (a little less if worn) and this one weighed 18.9 (plus it stuck to a magnet, something silver doesn't do.)

Sorry for the vague question folks. I don't currently own any of these coins and I'm fairly new to coin collecting as well. My focus from the start has been UK coins and US nickels for the most part so I'm just starting to delve into the large dollars. Thanks for the information. This forum is always super helpful!

Newbie here...

Last week I saw a 100 lot of Morgans on ebay that when at (about) $24.xx

And a 100 lot of Peace that went at about $22.xx

All were common, but were NOT culls.

In smaller lots, you will pay more ... of course.

I don't know if this helps or not.

Keep this in mind ... if silver rockets down or up... this will effect the price.

Very good point Domain555, and yes this question gets asked a lot but the price of silver swings wildly all the time.

In my experience the price of a low-grade Morgan is about the same as a one ounce round of silver, so spot plus a buck or two, and higher grades are higher still.

Plus it's different for different places, I'm at $22 for a Morgan from the cull bin, I have heard of them going for $15 from cull, to even $25 or more.

Silver price is still low so now is the time to buy I hope I can get unburied on Monday to got to my LCS

Edit: silver took a $0.50 slid a few days ago.
