None of these coins have the front or back rotated, I just did a not too good job scanning them.

1978 25 cents: Small denticle or large denticle? Which one is the rare variety? I think this one is small, I ran my nail across the teeths and counted 140, closer to the small denticle's number (148) than the large denticle (120). I might be wrong though.

1999 5 cents: No "P" under the Queen, is it a rare variety? I know that the ones without the "P" are cupro-nickel while the ones that has "P" are steel. All the years after 1999 they all have "P", and before they don't have "P".

1963 25 cents: Just confirming that this is silver? It reflects light as white (and it's bright enough to make your eye hurt and leave an after-image) while the other coins reflect slightly yellowish light compared to this one. And it sounds like "dingggggg" when dropped or tapped (newer coins sound like "tink"). It's very worn, anyone knows how to grade it?

Thanks!

1. Small Denticle. The small ones are roughly equal for length and width whereas the large ones are roughly twice as long as they are wide. Large Denticle is slightly more valuable at the highest grades.
2. The 1999Ps are the rare ones. They were only produced for testing the new designs and then recalled by the RCM. However, for the first time, the RCM decided to tap into the market for these test coins and issued 20,000 sets for sale. The 1999 no P is the common circulation coin for that year.
3. 80% silver. In 1967 they were minted roughly half as 80% and half as 50%. In 1968 you have some 50% silver (non magnetic) and the rest nickel (magnetic).

Thanks. I have some more questions:
How about 2001 quarters with no P? Are those the rare ones, or the ones with P are the rare ones?
Is there really 2001 and 2006 nickels that has P and no P, like in 1999? Are they rarer?
With the silver coin the front looks more worn (the Canada is almost all worn off) than the back (you can still barely see the wreath and shoulder). How to grade it and what should I give?

I'll be going through some change again today and hopefully I'll find something interesting.

this website should get you started with some of your questions.

i feel bad that you actually counted the denticles as there are easier ways. I cant recall off hand for the year you have, but usually there will be a letter pointing to a denticle, or pointing beteween. thats the easier way to tell.

Hi, sorry for not replying sooner, but this week was pretty full of assignments and everything. At least I have a break now, even though it will be most taken up by doing two projects.

Thanks, wazzappening. That's a great site! I've been looking at it and it's really helpful. I've learnt a lot.

By the way I traded for another batch of change this time $10 at face value. Didn't find anything particularly interesting, but I did find a 1963 penny that looks like there's green carpet growing all over it. Also a strange splotchy 2008 nickel with some green in it, and it also feels rougher than normal coins. Should I separated them from the other coins?

And apparently I've also been correcting the wrong coins, The 1992 and 2002 coins with 2 years on them are not limited mintage, and the 2001 with Year of Volunteer on it, that's why I find so many of them.

I also found a 1939 Jefferson nickel. Quite worn though. Feels pretty heavy, I'm kind of surprised by how much copper is used in US money.

I also found these two quarters that are so mangled. Can you believe this? I wonder that was done to them.
