I have a 1947 that is badly worn, looks pitted and weighs 4.7 grams.

I'm still not taking very good pictures but the one question I have is...

There is no loop in the R, should I work on pictures for better ID or is the 1947 date only backed with the looped R?

All of the dates other than 1944 that I have ever seen had the loop in the R. But that does not mean others do not exist. Go ahead and post a photo of both sides.

Without a method of testing the coin's metal content, I don't think it's possible to tell with 100% certainty. Corrosive materials could cause the pitted look and different weight, but I think the only calling card of the Henning nickel is the trace amounts of iron.

You asked for it...

Is-It-A-Henning-Nickel? Is-It-A-Henning-Nickel?

I'm hating every picture I take...

I might have glanced over it but I never did see it stated definitely that only the 44's had no R loop, it seemed like that was the idea but never could find anything for certain, but I guess the only certain thing about Henning's is they are elusive.

Sorry but I am not seeing a Henning here. I do not see the characteristic pitted fields. Also besides the pitted fields there are small occasional raised pimples which an acid bath could not replicate.

Also I believe most Hennings are slightly overweight, not underweight.

That is true. I have some that are about 4.9g but they are very worn. They usually run around 5.3g.
