Picked up a box of pennies the other day to find an 1864 Indian on the end of a roll. (so I could see it right away when I opened up the box)I can't post pictures of it right now but it's in F-12 condition. Anyone know how much this is worth? This is my first IHC I've ever received from CRH'ing so I'm pretty excited. Thanks!

In 1864 the mint changed the composition of IHC from copper-nickel to bronze. On some of the bronze coins they added an 'L' (designer's initial -Longacre) on the lower ribbon behind the neck. So for that year they have 3 IHC types(copper-nickel, , bronze no L, bronze with L). Without knowing which type, we cannot give you an estimate of value. Pictures would certainly help/ Numismedia prices of 1864 IHC in F-12 condition copper-nickel-$30, bronze-no L-$22, bronze with L-$132

Wow--what are the odds of finding a 150 year old coin in that grade? There's a lot of varieties for 1864 that affect value as well.

That is a crazy find. I have found once IHC roll searching, an almost slick 1887.
