You can see that the edge is much larger on the left side of the coin and begins to taper towards the top. I outlined a red portion in the image that has visible damage, but it is very minor and I don't think it has anything to do with the effect of the gradual size decrease of the edge. Thoughts?

It is called a MAD.In order for it to have a premium parts of the design has to be "falling off" the planchet.

Here is what John1 was referring to.

Note how the obverse devices fall over the rim of the coin?

The hammer die is adjustable, the anvil die is stationary. They need to center the hammer die. When this is not correct a batch of MAD coins happen. They can correct it, but sometimes they don't. So these are collectable when the devices fall over the rim.

To sum things up, you're basically saying there is no additional value due to the fact that none of the defining characteristics on the face of the coin "fell off" the coin? Is there any sense in keeping this? I realize it's minor, but it's the first one I found. I prefer to only hold on to coins of value, but if what you said is true, I have no interest in keeping this one.

Pretty much, because misalignments of that magnitude are not at all uncommon. "Rarity" becomes a thing only when design details start disappearing, and one also has to factor "collector interest" into the equation.

Is it worth more than face value?

It's spendable. Keep if you like, but probably no premium for this coin. Sorry
