I recently bought my FIRST graded coin, a 1986 gold eagle certified as MS 69 by NGC. There is a very obvious spot of discoloration on the obverse, near Lady Liberty's torch. Looking up the cert on NGC's website shows it was there when they graded it. It's definitely on the coin, and it looks more obvious in person than it does in this picture. Doesn't really look like a copper spot to me, but maybe it is? Anyway can someone tell me if this is normal for an MS 69 or if this coin was perhaps overgraded? I'm curious for future reference, I wasn't expecting such a glaring flaw in an MS 69 coin...also wondering if I should return this coin. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Kind of looks like a toning spot to me. Obviously NGC saw it and did not think that it lowered the grade. But if you are not happy with it , return it or exchange it.

Gold does not tone, but the silver/copper alloy it is mixed with, can tone over time.

If you don't like it and can send it back I probably would. The spot will just bug you every time you look at it.

, return it if you can - if it bothers you now, you will not get over it.

Thanks for the welcome! And for the advice...the seller is giving me an exchange, so we'll see how that goes. It seemed silly to return it, like you said it's buillion, but like you also said it bugged me every time I looked at it!
