Charlton identifies this as PC-3.
This is a rather vanilla series (having only minor deviations).
Of this series, Doctor Courteau identifies 9 different varieties.
They are numbered 5,5a,5b,5c,5d,5e,5f,5g,and 5h. F,G,and H have
a defective I in PROVINCE (either 'short to the left, lacking to
the left, or lightly cut to the left). Thus F,G, and H can be
eliminated from consideration as the I is normal on your token.
On 5, the whip lash extends below the coat, and 5a extends ever
further. Thus 5 and 5a can be eliminated as the whip lash is even
with the bottom of the coat on your token. 5c has a small circular
period after CANADA, whereas 5b and 5e have a large circular period.
Thus 5c can be eliminated as your token had a large period. Dr. Courteau
failed to indicate the size of the period of 5d, but mentions the upper
ball of the whip handle is the largest. Yours is normal, thus 5d can
be eliminated. The process of elimination leave 5b and 5e as contenders.
quotation:
5b. Obv. Whip-lash ends even with bottom of coat. Small line on coat over
whip handle. Large circular period after CANADA. In most instances the
letters are double-cut, especially in PROVINCE. Sometimes found with two
die-cracks from border: one between N and C in PROVINCE, the other to the
man's right foot, at left.
5e. Obv. A small line emerges from man's right hand, over whip handle.
Large circular period after CANADA. Bottom of O in SOU unfinished. In
many instances a die-crack from border to man's right foot.
Hint. The bottom of the O in SOU on your token appears unfinished.
Variety 5e. R-1.
