Lot of three coins arrived this morning. This weighs about 2g 12mm. Not been able to identify it yet. Definitely not like my Minerva/Owl quadrans.

Nor me. I think perhaps a bit of a soak when I get back from my trip, I think it will clean up a bit. There are examples on acsearch of similar but not quite the same.

owl coins!
i looked aroudn a bit pish, but didn't find anything. the style of a facing owl with wings spread showed up quite a bit on silver coins from pontos...not that that helps you much probably.

It's adorable! Looks familiar, hmm, I'm not sure where it's from. Similar standing/facing/wing-spread owls are found on several city issues including Pergamon (Mysia), Amisos (Pontos), Sigeion (Troas), and others. If I come across a match I'll holler :)

India, neat-o! Have fun :) Right now I'm thinking your little coin may be from Velia, Lucania. They issued some small AE coins with standing/facing/spread-winged owls. Laureate Zeus obverse. Here's an example from wildwinds: Quote: Velia, AE12 of Velia, Lucania.
Laureate head of Zeus right. YELHTWN beneath owl standing facing, wings spread.
HN Italy 1330; SNG Cop. 1603.
This coin is from Dane's own collection-- she's the person behind wildwinds and Helvetica (catbikes). She has an extensive owl collection and is very nice and generous with her knowledge. You might drop her an email with your pictures asking for confirmation. http://www.catbikes.ch/helvetica/owlcoins.htm

I am hoping to find an Indian coin whilst I am there. Hoping I don't get ripped off with tourist rubbish!

Got an answer from Dane, the coin is between 350-300 BC.
