I think it's called a Cud, a bit of metal broken off from a die or coin, or even the machinery can mess with the coin and make a small inclusion. Interesting but not uncommon.

It's not a Cud. A Cud is a nickname for a die break involving the rim. This appears to be a small area of die damage. It doesn't look like a chip.
